Poe's Emporium

Umpreshaba!

As I was walking down the sidewalk on the way back from grabbing a coffee the size of a small vehicle, I was writing a wonderful allegory about the human condition in my head. It was going to be the symbol of the end of the writer’s block that has befallen me over the last several crummy months, and I was proud of it.

Just as I was figuring out the last stanza to sum up the piece and clarify its final intent, a Middle Eastern gentleman on a rickety bicycle shot past me to the left, smiling and waving, and yelled “UMPRESHABA!!!!!”

I perplexedly retorted “Damn straight!” and continued my trek back to the cave.

With that, I totally gave up on the piece, because really, that friendly greeting was so much better. I have no idea what it means, but it’s probably more poignant than whatever I was going to type up. Even if it’s something bad, I don’t really care. It rolls off the tongue, really. Umpreshaba, people! That is all.
